The current situation and development opportunity of China's tobacco packaging market

(I) the current situation and problems of China's tobacco packaging industry

China is the largest cigarette market in the world. In order to share the market share as much as possible, each cigarette factory in China shows its magic power and constantly brings forth the new. Therefore, China's tobacco packaging market has witnessed an unprecedented prosperity. The packaging of some products has even far exceeded the packaging level of some famous international brands. In particular, the hard packaging of cigarettes has created a historical precedent for the world's tobacco packaging. Gold, silver and frosted packaging, as well as the most advanced technologies in the world packaging industry (such as hot stamping, holographic anti-counterfeiting, etc.) have all appeared on the hard packaging of cigarettes in China

since the reform and opening up, China's tobacco packaging technology has made rapid development. The cigarette case packaging has been in the forefront of the national packaging from the soft box packaging of coated paper to the hard box packaging of ordinary white cardboard, glass cardboard and aluminum foil gold and silver cardboard, and then to the hard box packaging of pet mirror composite cardboard, and the introduction of high-grade sanding technology. Now, the domestic tobacco industry has launched laser rainbow cardboard (including BOPP laser rainbow cardboard and pet laser rainbow cardboard) hard wrapped cigarette cases, which gives people a fresh feeling and drives the upsurge of using laser rainbow cardboard in the tobacco industry. The market is gradually expanding. China's tobacco packaging has reached a new level in material selection: from the partial use of laser materials for decoration (such as laser electrochemical aluminum hot stamping) to the overall and full page combination of laser materials and printing

although China's tobacco packaging industry has made a lot of investment and improvement, the following problems still exist:

1 The overall technical level still lags far behind that of foreign countries

2. The proportion of hard flip cigarette packs only accounts for 50%, and the process of high-grade cigarette packs is slow

3. Excess production capacity, idle equipment, and excessive corporate debt

4. The cigarette packaging industry relies too much on the tobacco industry

The tobacco industry hopes that domestic packaging enterprises will pay close attention to research and development, form production capacity as soon as possible, develop and expand in the competition, and meet the needs of the tobacco packaging industry

(II) China's tobacco industry's requirements and expectations for the packaging industry after China's accession to the WTO, although foreign tobacco will not be enough to change China's existing tobacco pattern within three to five years, these years are just an important period for the reshuffle of China's tobacco market and the relocation of the industry. The fierce competition between domestic tobacco and foreign tobacco for the limited sales terminal market of zero research technology groups has also begun. The tobacco industry also puts forward higher requirements for tobacco packaging. The use of new materials, new equipment, new processes and design, and anti-counterfeiting means is more practical, which is different from the packaging of other products. The particularity of the production of the tobacco packaging industry includes:

1 Large quantities of long version, long line and high speed

2. Protect the color, flavor and taste of tobacco products

3. The effect of cigarette label surface decoration is very high

4. Anti counterfeiting requirements

5. Environmental protection requirements

the difference between general tobacco packaging and high-quality tobacco packaging usually lies in:

1 Whether the package is complete, firm and pressure resistant

2. Whether the boundary is clear and not easy to distort

3. Whether the box cover is well covered to ensure that the inner frame will not be exposed

4. Whether the joints are straight and properly connected

5. Whether the printing style matches the whole structure

6. Whether all colors are coordinated

7. Whether there are mistakes, spots, mottled spots or filler lines on the printing

at present, there is no tobacco packaging in the world that can match the packaging design of brand cigarettes in Asia, especially in China. However, without high-quality packaging materials, great design will be wasted. Therefore, the packaging materials of tobacco are also very important

(III) development opportunity of China's tobacco packaging industry

after China's entry into WTO, China's tobacco packaging products will further develop towards high quality and internationalization, the competition in the tobacco packaging industry will become more intense, and the use of new materials, new equipment, new processes and design, and anti-counterfeiting means will become more practical. At the same time, the comprehensive strength of tobacco packaging enterprises will become a key factor for tobacco enterprises to consider when selecting suppliers. The tobacco industry will undergo a reshuffle after China's entry into WTO, which will certainly cause a new round of fierce competition among tobacco packaging suppliers

1) changes in the marketing mode of tobacco packaging products

with the adjustment of China's tobacco industrial structure, the market concentration has been greatly improved, the marketing channels of tobacco packaging enterprises have been relatively reduced, the market public relations objectives are more concentrated, and the single market share has increased. Tobacco packaging enterprises can "concentrate their firepower" to win more orders

2) tobacco packaging products tend to be high-grade and high-tech, with higher and higher requirements for quality.

after the implementation of the new tobacco tax system in 2001, low-grade tobacco is almost unprofitable, and the competition in the tobacco industry gradually turns to medium and high-grade tobacco. After China's entry into the WTO, with the continuous reduction of the cost of the main business of plastic modification materials of domestic medium and high-grade tobacco companies in recent years and the entry of foreign cigarettes, it will be more obvious. The tobacco industry also has higher and higher requirements on the quality of packaging products, and pays more attention to new packaging materials, new processes and new technologies. Packaging enterprises are required to increase the scientific and technological content of products while strictly ensuring or printing and pasting spoon and chopsticks marks (see Appendix A for details) product quality, so as to improve the product grade, so as to meet the needs of brutal competition among major tobacco brands

3) the design style of tobacco packaging products will tend to be internationalized

after China's entry into WTO, foreign tobacco will compete with Chinese tobacco enterprises in the same market, forcing Chinese tobacco enterprises to accelerate the process of internationalization and go abroad as soon as possible. This will certainly require higher quality, firmer, cleaner and more innovative tobacco packaging products, and the design style will also be more internationalized. When exporting, Chinese tobacco producers should consider two key points in packaging, namely, the purity and cleanness of packaging. In particular, the European and North American markets are very sensitive to the purity and cleanliness of food and tobacco packaging, and tobacco enterprises will pay more attention
